LOST Retrospective: "The Other 48 Days"

So I started to re watch LOST from the beginning a couple of weeks ago and I thought it would be cool to blog about what I am watching as I didn't the first time around.

There are a few reasons why season 2 remains to be my favourite season of LOST and this episode is probably the main reason. The fact that the tail end of the plane survived (lovingly referred to as the "tailies") and went through a far more brutal ordeal than the front end of the plane is something that I just find really interesting. The tailies went through the polar opposite (more or less) than the front end did. Was it more brutal becuase of Ana Lucia? Arguable but I think not. I think that the tailies had more "good people" that the others wanted over the front end and that is why they suffered more. If you look back on it, it is bizarre as to why the front end (while they were shacked up at the beach) did not get attacked like the tailies did. I think a reason why is becuase maybe the others knew eventually they would take the "good people" but will wait until Claire has her baby (and we all know that storyline).

I love the burgeoning relationship between Ana Lucia and Goodwin. They start to rely on each other and go to each other for certain things. Which makes me think when exactly did Ana Lucia start to question his story? I do not think it was at the beach but more of when they were camping near the river and there was Nathan who was causing quite the insurgence against Ana Lucia. I think the cracks start to show when Nathan is put in the "jail" and Goodwin is not so confident in his coversations with Ana Lucia. So when, Nathan eventually dies (thanks Goodwin) Ana Lucia knows that the "others" will be coming for them soon and hence the move. As she is a police woman she knows she needs to get him alone to get some more info (I believe on the "force" that is known as "getting the 411"). Perfect timing when Goodwin offers to "test" the radio by himself and what leads to him getting found out.

There are so manynew characters to this episode which I love, the introduction of Libby, the kids, Mr Eko, Bernard, that random aussie tourist I mean stewardess - all of which get more attention later on.

However, this is the only time in which I disagree with my beloved LOST - I do not think that Shannon needed to be killed (at least this early on). Even though by this stage she had been through somewhat of a transformation (no longer relies on Boone etc) I don't think she was quite finished. Which makes me wonder - was she caught drink driving on the island as that has been seen to be a bit of a death wish for character on the show.

I like to think of this episode as Season 2 part 2 as it really ushers in a new LOST for us all to watch and enjoy.

  2. And how tiny are her tits?!!!! I saw her in an early episode of Californication and she laid the old theory of "hand size v tit size" to rest. Thank god they culled her from season 3. She's getting on these days anyway.
